A Most Unusual Vacation!

How our unplanned vacation came to be!
After spending the weekend at a camp meeting in North Carolina, which we enjoyed very much, the question was whether to make a beeline for home or spend a few days on vacation. Now, I absolutely love the idea of vacation. Who doesn't? It gets me excited and I start planning, looking up websites, delighting in the thought of time off. This time my attitude was quite different.

Some issues had come up in our family, difficulties I was unwilling to tackle while on vacation, so the easy route led north to PA and my safe, secure, familiar home. Why go on vacation if I dread it? My exasperating (at least to me right at the time) husband thought otherwise! He was quite sure it was not only a good idea to take off several days, after an extremely busy few months, but even went so far as to say he thinks that is what God wants us to do. One thing he said did actually make sense to me and that was the fact that this time together as a family could be jus…

The carpenter and his wife

It's just that every now and then vanity sets in. I'm being honest here! I don't like having bumps, bruises, and scratches, but it goes right along with carpentry. I'm the wife but somehow I get involved once and again. This story is about the little injuries.

My man has a day job, somewhat connected to carpentry, but I'm talking about those evening and Saturday jobs (oh, and all those houses we've renovated together) he sometimes takes. Note: it usually has something to do with a sagging bank account. We call them "side jobs" and they range from windows to siding to roofs to trim to decks, etc...

This particular job is a deck for a pretty little cabin on the top of Stone Mountain. It's a rather larger job than some. The deck is on the second floor, off the back of the house, and about 40 feet long. But it's not nearly as bad as the tiny metal roof we just finished the other night, where Julian, Jacki, and I had to hand…

Some of my thoughts of late...

I have to trust God. When the giants are huge, the fears overwhelming, I choose to trust Him. When I've failed...again...I get back up and believe He still loves and forgives and saves me.

We like to think everything will fall into place delightfully and peacefully if God controls our lives and we've surrendered to Him. The truth is that He allows trials to test our faith in Him. These same problems cause us to need Him. The breaking of our self-will, of our own strength, makes way for the Holy Spirit to completely fill our lives.

In 1 Samuel there's an example of God bringing deliverance, but it's certainly not in the way we would plan. David killed the giant and it seemed the kingdom of Israel would soon be his. He had already been anointed as the next king. Instead, he ends up running from Saul and hiding out in caves. In the place of captivity, David refreshed himself in God. He had to wait for God's time, God's deliverance..…

Circle of Light

What does it mean to live in my circle of light? For me, it's a combination of inspiration! I have been privileged to receive teaching from several men of God, Brother Zac Poonen and Brother Wayne Weaver. Brother Zac has taught about staying within the circle God has placed around me, and Brother Wayne talks about living according to the light God shines upon me. When I combine those two thoughts a beautiful concept emerges.

In the world around us there is darkness and confusion and sin. Picture a stage light beaming down on one certain spot, bringing illumination and direction and order. I may not be able to pierce the blackness all around, but if God is shining a light on a specific area, I can walk in the security and purpose He gives to me right in that spot. Jesus is that Light.

"Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, 'I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life."…

To Honor God

As a child of God and a keeper of my home, how do I give honor to God? I long for this in my own life, in my children, and in my home. So I went to the Source of Wisdom and here are a few verses I've found:

"For God bought you with a high price, so you must honor God with your body." 1 Corinthians 6:20(NLT)

"...we ask God to give you complete knowledge of His will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit." Colossians 1:9 & 10 (NLT)

"When He [Jesus] comes on that day, He will receive glory from His holy people - praise from all who believe. And this includes you, for you believed what we told you about Him. So we keep on praying for you, asking God to enable you to live a life worthy of His call. May He give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do. Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored …
