In Christ

What if I would smile...

Yesterday that phrase flitted through my mind. It wasn't a particularly terrible day, just hard to stand by faith. I kept struggling with attitudes and all that rubbish. From that fragment of a thought a song was born.

That is the beauty of Jesus Christ in me by the Holy Spirit. Oh, if we could see all that goes on in the realms of the heavens that cannot be viewed with our eyes. Battles are being fought for the souls of men, lives are being tested for faith, and through it all we have Jesus sitting beside the throne of God to intercede for us, if we will only have faith in Him.

Some time ago I read Colossians 3 and it became like my testimony, especially verses 1 through 17:
1Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 2Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. 3For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. 4And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.
5So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. 6Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming. 7You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world. 8But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. 9Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. 10Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.11In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.
12Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. 14Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. 15And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.
16Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. 17And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.

Looking back on that marvelous chapter, there seems to be a connection between it and this song, at least for me! "Hidden in Christ" is my favorite part of that entire scripture!

In Christ

What if I would smile instead of angry words
What if I would praise in spite of all the pain
What if I would hope when all my hope is gone
Where would my heart by found

I am hiding in Christ there's power in His Name
I believe His sacrifice is truly all I need
To give to me the grace to live by Christ

What if I would pray instead of all my fears
What if I would love in spite of all the tears
What if I would trust when trusting seems too hard
Where would my heart be found

What if I would thank instead of all complaint
What if I were kind in spite of all the pain
What if I forgive for I'm forgiven much
Where would my heart be found

As the Bible puts it so beautifully, I pray...
"The message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives."

  1. wonderful Karyn, now I would love to hear the music you put to the words.....

    1. Well, you know, it might be quite some time before that happens! We have no plans for a recording right now :)

  2. beautiful! And I also would love to hear you sing this, Karyn! Maybe I should pray that a plan for a recording would be born. :)

    1. Thanks Brenda! I would be blessed to have you pray about it, to be quite honest, because God is our Director in this matter anyway :)
