Life Better

John 10:10
"I am come that they might have life,
and that they might have it more abundantly."

We play little games at making life better, make attempts at living fully, but Jesus alone is Life better, Life beyond all our greatest efforts. As we become hidden in Him and He begins to radiate from our lives, then and only then, is Life at its best.

Revelation 21:3, 4
"I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, 'Look, God's home is now among His people! He will live with them, and they will be His people. God Himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever."

Our hearts long for that freedom from crying and pain, so we search for answers. But how foolish is our greatest knowledge and finest answer. In contrast, how infinite is the wisdom in Jesus. Why do we even try to figure it out on our own? Oh, the pressure from all around to live life to the full, but unless our wisdom and life is Christ, it is all dust and ashes. It seems our eyes are almost completely blind to truth in our pursuit of better living.

We follow the world's methods and find ourselves buried in deception and confusion, then wonder why we do not experience peace and fulfillment. Have we washed our garments white in the blood of Jesus? Or have we tried to cleanse ourselves through rules and requirements set forth by people around us, in the world and in the church?

Philippians 4:5 "Let your moderation be known unto all men."

Moderation = forbearance, gentleness

Moderation = "...the temper that contents itself with less than its due, and shrinks from insisting on strict rights. There is no joy in narrow selfishness; joy involves an open heart, a generous love." (Pulpit Commentary)

Never before have I seen the world and the church is such a united pursuit, that of health, fitness, and better living. It is shockingly terrifying and quite confusing to my human senses, and deeply saddening to my spirit. I know Who our hope is and what our Answer to life is, but have most Christians totally lost the connection to their namesake, Christ?

We are made to feel guilty and look foolish-at-best and sinful-at-worst if we do not follow the trend now rampant in America - radical health and fitness for a better life.

Proverbs 3:5 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding."

I wonder, is it a huge deception to steer mankind away from Jesus? It has become such a preoccupation as to be a god, a thing to worship, i.e., first and foremost in the minds of many, many people, even those who are otherwise known as Christians.

Yet, I have seen and experienced firsthand the devastation of a life given to health and fitness. It has the potential to lead to oppression, selfishness, and death. A life given over to any pursuit other than Jesus and His plan will end in destruction.

May God open our eyes to see!

What if we make Jesus our pursuit? How can we place His Name above all? What of proclaiming...

His glorious majesty
His total triumph over sin, sickness, self
His peace beyond understanding
His strength to carry us through each day
His mercy new every morning
His Word as a Sword of the Spirit to separate lies from truth
His gentle, comforting, guiding Holy Spirit to live within us?

Jesus is Life everlasting, abundant, fulfilling, and overwhelmingly triumphant. I chose Jesus Christ as my Lord!

Revelation 21:5 - 7
"And the One sitting on the throne said, 'Look, I am making everything new!' And then He said to me, 'Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.' And He also said, 'It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega - the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the Springs of the Water of Life. All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.'"

What an amazingly secure and peaceful place we have to run to, Jesus, the Beginning and the End of all things! He satisfies from the Springs of the Water of Life! He leads with gentleness and love, not guilt and confusion.

Everything I will ever need can be found through seeking first His Kingdom and Righteousness! Matthew 6 is a beautiful description of how to live this way! Oh Joy!

Lest any of you should think I am speaking against you or what you do, please do not think it or believe it. This, as all my posts do, comes from what is in my heart, but is not for judgement on anyone. Only a thought, an encouragement, a glimmer of light from the circle of my life. In particular, this is a result (or conclusion) of four long years of battle in our own family and the words of life our Father has given to us.

Romans 8: 38 & 39
"And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow-not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below-indeed nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord."

May courage arise in your hearts to seek His face
for every aspect of your own life!
Jesus has the answers to life!

  1. So much truth & things to think about here. It's alarming how sneaky so many "good" things creep into our lives, distracting our pursuit of Jesus alone!
