Spectacular September Saturday

For the first time this summer...wait, that season is gone. For the first time in months anyway, our family of four gets to spend a Saturday together.

It has been so long since we have had a Saturday wide open that we set it aside to celebrate. Usually, someone is working or we have guests or we are away for the weekend.

Hurray for Today!

The morning dawned clear, mist-laden and promising sunshine. With a vague idea of searching out a bit of Lake Erie beach, a lakeside town, perhaps a historic downtown, maybe even a lighthouse, we set out bright and early.

Along the way we discovered that Sure House Coffee was not far off our route. This required a slight detour, our first stop of the day, because it's a new coffeehouse in Wooster we've wanted to try.

We were quite pleased with our coffee creations and cinnamon sugar cretzels.

This is my daughter's response when I raise my camera one too many times. It also shows you the pretty earthenware mug, so the photo is not altoge…

"Why, Lord?"

When, once again, I questioned, "Why, Lord?" Concerning burdens that seem too heavy to bear, sins that too easily beset me, and promises yet unfulfilled, this was His answer...

"The Lord isn't really being slow about His promise, as some people think. No, He is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent." 2 Peter 3:9
So He is not slacking after all but, in reality, is being patient. Where have I not repented? I must know what is required of me so I can carry it out. I need revelation on His Word.
Two verses come to mind.
"The Lord has told you what is good, and this is what He requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8
"The Lord doesn't see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." 1 Samuel 16:7
These two perspectives are encouraging and give me a path to follow.

Autumn Mantel

Mid-September and my mantel has suddenly transformed from Summer to Autumn. If you had asked me a week or two ago I would have let you know it's too early for this season change. Yet here I am, happy with the cooling temperatures, hints of brilliant fall color, and all the cozy that surrounds this entrance into harvest.
And I'm also rather excited about a room refresh simply by redecorating the mantel!

This morning my daughter Jacquelyn and I walked down to Sweetwater Farms, our favorite roadside market, and selected half a dozen mini white pumpkins to add to my mantel display. Mary and her girls have the place looking absolutely fabulous!

I have had about a dozen tiny terra cotta pots stored away in a corner of the garden shed ever since we live here. Having found them at a yard sale years earlier, I couldn't decide on a great way to use them. Now they've been dug out, cleaned up, and whitewashed to grace my autumn mantel; a few may find their way into Jacki's b…
